Don,

Try and find a copy of Across Iowa on the K&W and H&S RR by Corbin and
Hardy. Many pictures and the history of the line.

Also look at Rob Adam's website <http://keokukandwesternrr.com/>. He has
collected a lot of information and has some late 1930s Employee and
Passenger Timetables he has scanned and placed on his web site.

Employee Timetables provide a wealth of information. In the late 1940s,
the line west out of Alexandria was on the Centerville Division. I've
always found these employee timetables extremely hard to find. I have
one from 1944 and another from January 6, 1946.

In 1946, there was a Daily except Sunday First Class train (Motorcar).
On the Hannibal Division, southbound No 40 left Keokuk at 8:30 am and
arrived at 8:45 am at Alexandria. On the Centervile Division, westbound
No. 1 left Alexandria at 8:45, making all station stops and arrived at
11:59 am at Centerville. Centerville Division No. 2 left Centerville at
4:45 pm making all stop and arriving at Alexandria at 7:30 pm. Hannibal
Division northbound No. 39 left Alexandria at 7:30 pm arriving Keokuk at
7:45 pm.

Hannibal Division southbound No. 12 from Burlington arrived at Keokuk at
8:20 am, so a connection could be made to No. 1. Hannibal Division
northbound No. 15 (Zephyr-Rocket) arrived at Keokuk at 9:06 pm making
for a little over 80 minute wait after the arrival Centerville Division
No. 2.

There was a Daily except Saturday Way Freight/Mixed Train each
direction. Hannibal Division No. 38 left Keokuk at 9:25 pm arriving
Alexandria 9:45 pm. On the Centerville Division, it then left Alexandria
at 9:50 pm at Train 95, making all stops, and arriving Centerville at
2:30 am. The return was Centerville Division No 94 leaving Centerville
at 6:45 am, making all stops, and arriving at Alexandria at 11:30 am.
The train then became Hannibal Division Train 45 leaving Alexandria at
11:30 am and arriving Keokuk at 11:50 am.

The note on the employee timetable said that all second class trains
will carry passengers.

Open offices:

Alexandria - 7:00 am to 3:00 pm & 4:00 pm to Midnight Daily.

Wayland - 7:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday-Saturday.

Kahokia - 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday-Saturday.

Medill (ATSF Crossing) - Continuous.

Memphis - 6:30 am to 6:30 pm Monday-Saturday.

Downing - 7:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday-Saturday.

Lancaster - 7:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday-Saturday.

Sedan - 8:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday-Saturday.

Centerville - 6:30 am to 10:30 pm Monday-Saturday. 6:45 am to 9:45 am
and 3:45 pm to 6:45 pm on Sunday.

The Downing and Memphis depots have been preserved. The Memphis depot
looks great from the outside, but it has been never open whenever I have
been through there. They might have some information on hand from what
was left in the depot.

The 1949 Hannibal Division Employee Timetable 91 shows the Hannibal
Division extensions of the Centerville trains still in place. The next
Hannibal Division Employee Timetable I have is No 93 in 1953 and it only
shows the Mixed train continuing.

The May-September 1951 Passenger Timetable shows No 1 (Daily except
Sunday) leaves Keokuk at 9:00 am and arrives Centerville at 1:05 pm.
Return No. 2 leaves Centerville at 3:30 pm arriving Keokuk at 6:45 pm.
The mixed train remained on the same schedule.

The CB&Q Assignment of Locomotives and Motor Cars as June 1, 1950 shows
275HP Pullman Motor cars 9815 and 9846 assigned to Centerville Division.
These same motor cars were also listed under the Hannibal Division on
December 1, 1944 (there was no Centerville Division assignments shown).

By December 1, 1950, only Motorcar 9815 was the only motorcar shown
assigned to Centerville Division.

So someone I think could safely assume that 9815 was serving as No. 1
and No. 2.

Bill
