Didn't Karl R talk about making use of  this "feature" on the Fox River branch?

Couldn't you do this on ex-Q SD-9 mars?

From what I can remember when I worked on the CB&Q F Units, there was a toggle switch directly under the on/off Mars switch that would stop the figure 8 pattern and allow you to move the light to whatever position you wanted. It could be stopped facing forward for an auxiliary headlight if the other went out, but most of the time the switch was used if you needed to look off to the side for something. Hope this helps.

Regards,

Charley

Subject: [CBQ] Mars Light on C&S F units

Hello,  I searched Mars Lights and did not find this information. On the F units, did the Mars light function as a headlight when not being uses as a Mars light. I know the DRGW used their's as headlight but imagine looking for slide rocks may have been a good reason. I have not seen any pictures to confirm it use otherwise. Does anyone have any info on this?  Thanks.  Steve near Walla Walla
