[CBQ] What's the difference between a mixed and a w/f that carries passengers ?

I am stumped and hope one of my fellow guys "who's been young for a long time" 
or fellow operating historian can answer this question.

I'm looking at a 1908 Q ETT page for the branches from Shabbona,IL to 
Sterling,IL and from Sheridan Jct to Paw Paw,IL. This is for an article that 
the editor already has but I was doing some
"Tweaking" based on this newest addition to the research documents.

So....... There's a mixed that operates over these lines and also a Wayfreight 
that carries passengers. What's the difference other than maybe the mixed has a 
coach and baggage car while the way freights' passengers go in the Waycar ? Are 
both jobs doing station switching ?
If the mixed is not,then what makes it a mixed ?

Oh,one last point,no "passenger" trains on the lines.
