Nelson,
Remember acrylic paint has larger particulates that the oil/lacquer
base paints. I have found the 35 to 40 psi is required for good spray
jobs. That is why I changed to a hot dog compressor, many years ago.
The small hobby compressors have a hard time of producing 35 - 40 psi
continuously. Having worked for Sherwin Williams the 5 years I was in
college I have reached my tolerance for oil/lacquer based paints. Like
Chris I very seldom thin acrylic paints to spray with the air brush. By
the way I own every brand of air brush made, I only use the Testors Aztek
system, After seeing a clinic given by Randy Lee of Model Railroading fame
I have not touched anything else.
