Tim,

Thanks so much for finding this photo! Awesome both in consist and confirmation!

BTW, the lead unit is definitely a U28C not U25C. The Phase I U28C's came with a different stanchion arrangement which is very clear in the photo. The U25C's used a flat "plate" stanchion that did not protrude much below the walkway. The looked almost flush with the side of the locomotive. The U28C's went to the more standard u-channel stanchions and were clearly visible along the frame, as can be seen in the photo you sent the link to. If you also look closely in the numberboards you can barely discern that the middle number is a 7, which would also put the locomotive in the 570 series U28C's. Looks like this unit is either U28C 576 or 575.

Here are some other photo links to the Q U28C's clearly showing the U28C stanchion arrangement:

Later in life, showing how the stanchions along the frame start to really stand out as the unit weathers:

U28C 577 in a consist coming through Naperville: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1435175 This is also a great shot to show the difference in frame heights and roof heights between the U25B, U25/28C, and early EMD SD. GE used a thicker frame than EMD because the TM blower duct actually ran under the engine and the GE 7FDL engine did not sit low in a sump like the EMD. The U25/28C's also sat higher to clear the massive GE tri-mount trucks.

U25C or U28C in St. Paul.  Can't get there on the CB&Q without going through Savanna.
