One more question about Galesburg. Does anyone know how it came to be that Aurora division crews were based at Galesburg? Thanks, Doug

Thanks Leo. Do you know how the mainline passenger turns wound up all Aurora snuffy? It was odd that we protected them extra but all the bid spots were Galesburg

Doug,

I do recall the mileage runoff on the around the horn job by engine men.

there were two turns on the around the horn job. If #1 had to leave the job for the mileage offset I don't recall where he went but you could be right about the Fox as I recall Gene Benoit on the Earlville for awhile and thought that odd.

Bud Linroth can answer why the trainman didn't balance the miles. We discussed it once but I can't recall what he said.

Another area where inter divisional miles were a daily event was the mainline passenger jobs. On these runs the lodges and gen committee set the jobs up so that enough positions were filled by each division to represent the miles run on their division.

The Aurora Division used Galesburg Division track from Savanna to Denrock, which necessitated a "run off" of miles. This was done by a Galesburg engineer working way freight 11643 (Eola-Mendota-Savanna one day, return via C&I the next) for a certain amount of time.

Two questions. First, I don't remember any trainmen running off miles. This was engine dept only? Second, I'm sure this kind of situation was present in many other locations, but where were some?

And Leo, do you remember where #1 went (the Fox River?) when he got bumped by the snuffy? He was never too pleased. I assume 11643 was the run off job because it was the only regular job on the horn?

Thanks, Doug
