There were no "trainpersons" of the female persuasion during my day.


HOWEVER....There was one female crew caller....When you called the 
"callboy"...She always answered...."CALL GIRL"....I am not making this up.

Well I guessyou could say that..."some were and some weren't"...Some 
haveobserved over the years that you can't expect "gentlemanly" conductwhen you 
put a man who has been  "rassling boxcars for 40 years untilhe gets enough 
seniority to run a passenger train to be a "gentlemen"at all times... 
 
  
 

I think that whether a guy is a"gentleman" or not depends on his own personalty 
and moralvalues....I had the privilege of working with both types.

Back in 1921, the Burlington’s vice-president announced that the Burlington was 
conducting a courtesy campaign among itsemployes. He said "In the management of 
a property requiring 60,000employes it is expecting too much that every one of 
them will be a 'perfectgentleman,' but we are determined that the percentage of 
'perfect gentlemen' inour employ shall be as high as we can make it."
