Pete, Thanks for the great info on St. Joseph.  Permit me me a brief personal 
recollection.  I moved there from Quincy in 1942, when I was 10 and had a bike. 
 I was at the depot a lot of the time.  I remember seeing a CGW freight on 
trackage a bit north of the depot come through, yet not far from depot 
trackage.  I was standing around the depot watching it.  I knew the CGW had 
passenger service in St. Joseph. I had never seen a freight come through there 
before.  The steam loco was hugh, maybe a 2-10-4, and working hard, with a long 
train.  It smoked up the whole area.  It made my day. 

I took my first train ride, the Silver Streak Zephyr, R/T from St. Joe to KC., 
during the war.  Another great time.  What a place for a kid.  That’s why I 
eventually built my layout based on Quincy and St. Joseph.  Thanks for the 
memories!  I’m searching the Barriger photos for shots.   Dick Wolter  BRHS
