I would opine from personal experience in a railroad family and my experience working up until 1971.

Motor(s) – E’s, F’s, geeps and switch engines

Unit(s) - E’s, F’s, geeps

F’s were graybacks

Red geeps were “redbirds” and I never heard the term “blackbirds” until I started reading this list.

Gas electrics – motorcar, motor. Never heard term gas-electric used much until Corbin’s book. My Dad worked the motorcars. They were motorcars, unless you were climbing “up on the motor”, “getting off the motor” or “on the motor.”

Fairmont section cars were motorcars, section car, putt-putt cars and trailers. I never heard or saw a “speeder” or the word Fairmont used in any description.

I never heard a steam engine called anything but an engine or a locomotive.

No engineer cared about what they were called, only what they weighed because that's how they got paid.

And for God’s sake, please trim your posts. When you don’t it makes the daily digest a miserable read. Killing electrons is still killing!
