Speaking of deadheading on whatever was available(a check doesn't show I've
sent this one before).
After arriving in Galesburg one night as extra Condr on 347 I was scheduled to
DH back to CUS on 348 the next morning. Seeing no point in spending the night
in GT I went over to Seminary St tower where the operator assured me he had
something headed east soon. The snuffy head end picked me up very nicely but
the detrain on the Aurora platform was at a speed that sure tested my ability
to stay upright.
The engineer was kind enough to wake me as we went by the stove works withe
alarm bell. I still think there was a message intended about Aurora passenger
men DHING home on snuffy frt trains
Next time I caught 347 I stayed in GT and DH home.
