I'm wondering if any older list members remember members of my family who
worked for the CB&Q many decades ago. My Dad, Ralph Brummel, worked at the
Aurora,IL shops during World War II. My uncle, Ralph May, was a brakeman for a
few years during the late 30's/early 40's, working on mostly the branch lines
out of Aurora. My mother, a railfan who died in 2007 at age 96, took her first
ride on the CB&Q from the old Aurora depot in 1916. My Dad recalled, as a kid,
riding his bike in downtown Aurora to watch the construction of the new Aurora
depot, as well as the elevation of the CB&Q mainline, during the early 1920's.
Other relatives included a grandfather, August May, and a great grandfather
that once worked for the "Q", the latter an engineer who was killed in an
accident in the Aurora yard.
