Also remember tank cars do not have slosh plates to stop the liquid movement with in the tank so it would move from one end to the other.  It was said that switching Armour-Dial in Aurora was hard for that being the second reason.  The first spilled product.

I can see how a solid train of tank cars filled with oil could be a handful to handle.   I wonder if the hump caused by the grade separation for  1st Avenue caused similar problems.   And we think Illinois, especially around Chicago, is flat!!

 

I’ve told the story before about an O-5 powered eastbound having their setout block buried back in the middle and having a fun time pulling the train out of the South Wye….took probably five minutes of sand and coaxing the throttle to get her off the Maple Avenue Crossing.
