Yes it was BN305/BNSF3451 and it had GN blue paint showing here and there under
the BN green. It was originally dual control but the fireman-side controls were
removed from the big dual sided control stand and the holes/slots plated over.

Well in the case of Sheridan there was a 24 stall roundhouse here to do that ;-)
There were also roundhouses at Gillette WY 103 miles east of Sheridan and at
Edgemont SD 120 miles beyond Gillette. Then 110 miles east of Edgemont was
Alliance NE with a big roundhouse. The point being that a steam loco in the day
was never very far from a roundhouse.
Also engineers back then were expected to know how to do things like take off a
siderod or disconnect valve linkages so that the loco could limp in on one side.
