Duncan I do not know the answer to your question. But I do know that Omaha
meat packers has a similar arrangement. Only there it was by the day, not
the week. Each railroad running Council Bluffs to Chicago had their day when
they got the majority of meat traffic. Each railroad got meat traffic each
day, but had one day when they got the majority of the meat. The meat
packers did this to keep shipping rates low, ie to generate competition.

 

It is quite possible that Kansas City meat packers did something similar.
