The Chicago, Burlington & Quincy has just paid the State of Illinois a fee of 
$110,885 for an extension of the road's charter for fifty years. Attorneys for 
the company contend that is it operating under a perpetual charter, but to be 
on the safe side it was decided to take advantage of a recent act of the 
legislature giving corporations the privilege of extending their charters for 
fifty years.
