In response to the link to the 1940's photos, Ken Martin provided me a link to
the main body of b/w prints from the same Federal project. I searched and
found 2 pics that show CB&Q subject matter.. One shows a Twin City Zephyr in
the summer of "39 at the old downtown depot in LaCrosse; the other depicts a
section of CB&Q track in Hitchcock Co., Neb in March of "40. Both are by an
Arthur Rothstein, one of the group of photogs hired by the Gov't. during the
Depression into WWII. I placed them in a new photo file titled Rothstein
Photos. The Twin Zephyr pic is full of detail, an o/b wood boxcar in
background by frt house, the BR sign (partially blocked by a street light so
even pros make mistakes when taking pics!) and a kid on an old balloon tire
bike. In contrast, the Hitchcock pic (no exact location) is a lonely section
of single track. Not having a map in front of me I have no idea what line this
may be but noted the telegraph poles are further from the track than normal,
suggesting a wide ROW despite it being single track (albeit very well groomed
during the Great Depression)
