I saw them in many locations on BN with different MoW crews. Basically they
were steel and built in the 40's whereas equipment they replaced was old wooden
boxcars dating to the 20's. Ditto as steel & even a few S.S. pass cars
replaced wood coaches in BN MoW service. There was not a 'standard'
construction requirement to my knowledge. As with most RR's, ret'd revenue
equipment still in reasonably good shape, became MoW equipment as needed inc.
even early 86' TOFC equipment.

John
Thanks for this response. Do you know if they assigned to any particular MoW
task, given their less than standard construction?

Most if not all were renumbered into the M of W numbers (first to CB&Q numbers
then BN)

Does anyone know what happened to the baggage express cars 8600-8899 ( ex troop
kitchen cars) in February 1970. Were they renumbered
into BN?
