and conversely, Forreston was the Q's gateway to Dubuque which was a major
shipping point in the 1800's as wqas woodworking capital. Until the CB&N was
constructed, Forreston (& the Mt. Morris branch in general) had a lot more
traffic. Abandoment from Mt. Morris to Forreston was a direct result of the Q
having its own line to Dubuque and points north with construction of
CB&Northern.

Actually, the Mt. Morris branch is even more interesting than most think....
....when it went all the way to Forreston, it was the IC's means of entry for
its Iowa lines into Chicago.... over trackage rights on the C&I and CB&Q all
the way to the St. Charles Air Line for most of the period until the IC finally
completed the Chicago, Madison & Northern.
This is an unwritten Chapter in the History of the CB&Q in Illinois and
deserves more research!!
