EPB & NCL equipment owned by CB&Q or SP&S had that sub-lettering; shows up on
some good models as well as prototype photos.

Dad told me a long time ago, the cars that the CB&Q owned outright that were
painted in the Great Northern Empire builder schemes, and the NP North Coast
Limited LOWEY scheme had "sub lettering" on the side of the car on one end.
The font size was small, but readable at a distance. Dad had shot slides of
these cars. I would have to look in the Q books he has photos in, to see if
any of his passenger photos were used, that have the sub lettering
