[CBQ] Gasoline motor car 1905

I found the following piece in a 1905 magazine - 



    A new gasoline motor car was tried not long ago on the C., B. & Q. and 
proved to be a complete success.

    It has rendered excellent service on one of the smaller branch lines in 
passenger and mail service.



Was this the first (railway) motor car as opposed to a road vehicle with 
flanged wheels?



Anyone able to shed any light on this?
