For you scratch builders out there, I just put an S-Scale rule on the
Havelock Economy Baggage Car drawing published in BB#36, p. 40-41, and I
found a labeling error on the truck centers. If the total car length is 79
ft. 2 in., then the truck centers cannot be 50 ft. 2 in. because the
distance between the truck center and the ends of the car are 10 ft. 7 in.
on each end (10 ft. 7 in. + 10 ft. 7 in. + 50 ft. 2 in. is not 79 ft. 2
in.).
After much trial and error, I managed to reduce the drawings to HO scale by
printing the original at 86.8% (87% is about 3 in. too long). Measuring the
HO scale photo-reduction with a scale rule give truck centers of 54 ft. 5
in.
It pays to measure drawings with a scale rule because there is no guarantee
that they are accurately drawn or labeled.
