Perhaps I am missing something, but so far I find this to be a pretty
interesting discussion. I read Overton's tome some years ago and much
appreciated it. I know he was well regarded for that work. But historical
thinking changes over time, and Michael Sol's critique/revisionist history adds
new information and/or fresh perspective, as do Gerald's responses. Debate over
historical events, comparisons between railroads, revisionist histories, etc.,
all would seem to be well within the scope/spirit of discussion for this group.
But I'll reserve judgement and will vote to pull the plug if it becomes to
angst-laden.
