Thanks for the info Leo. Must have been a packed house at the beginning of
each shift with the 4/5 man crews.
Today we all go on duty at the "Eastbound" (except two at Western Ave. and one
at 14th St.) which I think is the east end office you're talking about. The
jobs have been trimmed down to 1 switch engine at 14th st., 1 switch engine at
Western Ave., 3 yard jobs (per shift) at Cicero, and 1 transfer (per shift).
There is a general switch engine at night and a House 8 job (starting at
Western Ave.) which does the transloading facility at Congress Park and
transfers cars from Western Ave. to Cicero yard. A mere shadow of what once
was... but then again isn't everything these days...
