Those who yearn for the old CB&Q days may be interested in this little
flashback I experienced tonight.
I thought I was seeing things on BNSF Metra commuter train 1259 when I glanced
up at the usually bare spot above the doors of the old 700 series car I was
boarding and saw classic lettering that looked like it was from the old CB&Q
days. Lo and behold I discovered that two cars in the train were lettered in
the old 'Zephyr' font as follows: Car 779 - "BNSF Railway", Car 742 -
"Burlington". Given that one of the cars referred to BNSF I am thinking that
the lettering is new. Another 700 series car on the train still had the blank
spot so I am not sure if the two cars were unique - lettered for a movie,
commercial or something - or if this is something that will be applied (one can
hope) to all of the old series cars.
Either way it made me smile to see the old stainless steel fluted cars lettered
like the old days. I will try to get photos posted but since it's dark in the
morning and dark at night it may be a while before I get a good shot.
