Did CB&Q contribute any F-units to the BN-merger? It seems that the Q
wasted no time in getting rid of their F-units. Most of them
apparently were used as trade-ins for newer EMD and GE motive power.
Contrast with GN and NP, who still had plenty of F-units which saw
further service with BN in the 70s. And while the Q retired their F3s
in the mid-to the late 60s, here in Illinois, the Gulf-Mobile & Ohio
(GM&O and later ICG) used early chicken-wire F3 up until the late
1970s, a service life of 30 years!
