Yes unlike the freight "F" units the three 9900 sets carried the grabs  
matched to the E units. Why the freight F's didn't receive the roof grabs I've  
never known the reason. And 9960-63 ABC carried the roof grabs in freight  
service after they were repainted in gray. 
 
>From dated photographs it appears the 9900 F's started getting their grabs  
in the summer of 1949. Same with other E and F units.
