I found the answer to my question. The Illinois Midland went out of business
in 1970 after a timber bridge burned for the second time in the lines history.
The first time was self induced from dumping the fire from the locomotive
while it was on the bridge;the second was caused by a group of kids.
Source is Volume 119 of the "Thrift Corner Yarns" of Aurora Savings and Loan
written by Vernon Derry in 1973.
