The definition for a division and a subdivision are provided in the Operating 
Department 
Rule Book. The following is taken from the May 1, 1951 issue:

A Division is that portion of a railroad assigned to the supervision of a 
superintendent.

A Subdivision is a portion of a division designated by timetable.

A branch line is not defined. Main track, single track, two or more tracks, and 
current of 
traffic are.
