I've come to that conclusion that the trains always ran mixed.   With
maintenance, wrecks, etc.  there probably was a fair degree of churn in the
consists, especially after 1952 when
the Q started to pool the cars with the ARZ/KCZ.
It seems like there were a couple of "regulars" as substitutes later
on....the D&RGW Pullman coaches, for example and their sleepers showed up on
the train too.
The tour groups are a cause of foreign road cars too.
