I just purchased the Walthers 10-1 Pullman car lettered "Burlington" in the
modern lettering scheme. In checking with Bill Glick, his Passenger car
book, and all the books on I have on the Q for photos, I have not been able
to determine if this Walthers car is properly lettered. I think not as the
windows arrangement in the mens rest room is incorrect.

I have only found one photo, in Dubin's book "Some Classic Trains" and the
Walthers car does not match the photo. I did find that the Walthers car is a
dead ringer for the GN "Oriental Limited".

The Walthers car may only be correct for ONE of the 10-1 sleepers owned by
the Q as noted in Bill's book, page 36. That would be car number 617
"McQuesten". Note that the windows shown in the mens rest room are 4 single
windows but Bill notes that car 617 had 2 single windows and 1 paired window
in the rest room.

Walthers included name decals for several of the cars, of course the
EXCLUDED the name "McQuesten"!

In talking to Bill, we thought it might be appropriate to leave the modern
"Burlington" lettering on the letter board and in the body for the name of
the car to simply letter it "CB&Q" and the car number "617" directly under
these letters.

??QUESTIONS??

The other option would be to repaint the side, I already removed the side
and windows so this would be easy to do. But then is the letter board marked
"Pullman" and can the ends be marked with "CB&Q"? Was/were any of the car
letter boards marked with "Burlington" in the older roman style? Although I
am not a "rivit counter", I would like to be somewhat accurate.

Does anyone know if any other cars in this series matched 617 with the
paired window in the rest room and if so, which ones?

I have just ordered one of the Branchline 12-1 sleeper in silver "Anaconda"
used on the FW&D. Other than "Pullman" on the letter board, did this car
have the initials on the ends, either FW&D or DB&Q. Did it ever carry the
name "Burlington" on the letter board in place of Pullman?

COMMENTS ABOUT THE WALTHERS MODEL:

Overall, I like this car. Walthers did a very good job on it, the interior
is exceptional! However, I find that the factory paint is too dull for my
taste, as I prefer the finish on the Branchline models.

Thanks for you help on this.
