Unless you want them as they came from the factory it isn't that
important (though photos are best).
I've seen fans mixed and matched indescriminately as the come in for
shopping. If you've seen an orange AC unit on a Santa Fe GE lately or a
gray one on a UP you'll see what I mean.
I used to worry about this until I saw some photos of units with 3
different fan styles from 3 decades of production models.

I am trying to detail one of the new HO scale SD-45s and need to know
what type of cooling and dynamic fans are appropriate. The model is
#525 in the transition green and white scheme and none of my photos
show the top where I can see what type of fans were used. The model
comes with pan type flat top fans. Based on data from other roads it
seems to me that these should be changed to open flat top fans such
as those produced by Cannon. (By pan type I mean that they have a
flat disk in the center of the grill work ).

Does anyone have a top shot that will clarify this detail.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Dale DeWitt
