When I was in the Passenger Department at the General Office in Chicago, one of
the things I did was compile the information about the Burlington which appears
in Robert Wayner's book Car Names and Consists. The material on pages 36
through 43 are from actual Burlington files.

In this light you will notice that 9900 did substitute as the OZARK STATE
ZEPHYR, October, 1938 through April, 1939.

John,

This postcard actually shows the 9900 after the 4th car had been added.
However, according to everything I've read, the 9900 was never lettered like
this. The airbrush artists obviously took an available photo and used it
even though it didn't depict the correct equipment. The only shovelnose
units to have the Alton-Burlington lettering were the 9902 from 12/36 to
10/38; the 9903 from 9/38 to 3/42; and the 9908 from 6/38 to appx. 4/40 -
this according to BB#13.

with "Alton/Burlington" inside BR logo, and on engine's side nameplate. This
appears to be CB&Q #9900. Is all of this a correct depiction of a train that
ran, or just some kind of painting??
