Great stories--let's have more of this! I never worked for a RR. Starting in the late 1970s, I lived near Yorkville a couple of blocks from the Fox River line, and would listen on the scanner nearly every night. When they were returning north around 9 PM or so, I would hear someone on the train (11811 or 11831 if I remember correctly) get on the radio as they were nearing Oswego and say something to the effect "We're a-comin' thru Oswego Lefty, are you awake?" Always wondered what that was all about. Any comments? Ray C. |
