The Q regularly advertised in "Trains" magazine in the '50s, along with several other railroads (Southern, UP, SP ACL and N&W come to mind.) As I recall, Q's ads were for both freight and passenger service. I specifically recall the ad for the opening of the Kansas City short cut. It highlighted fast freight service in the form of Train #77 and had a photo of Red Grange (also 77) cracking a bottle of champagne(?) over the buffer plate of an F unit. I also recall Q ads in National Geographics. BTW, the complete NG, including ads, are available on CD.

Hello,

I have a couple of questions reguarding advertising for the Twin Cities
Zephyr. I recently saw a magazine advertisment on EBay for the Twin Cities Zephyr and the picture was taken looking south at Lynxville Wisconsin. The
seller said that it was from the early 1940s and knowing that travel was
restricted during the war, it must be either 1940 or 1941. (I think.)My
grandfather, a retired Q and early BN depot agent, grew up in Lynxville and asking him about the ad, he said that the Q advertised in Life magazine. Is
that true? And what other magazines did the Q advertise in? If I could
learn how many magazines that the Q did advertise in, it would help my ad
hunting tremendously.

Thanks,

Sam Weber
