Here's a recent press release from the Union Pacific: (Sure would be
nice if the BNSF would make this kind of commitment to its rich
heritage!)

Union Pacific Makes Donation to Historical Society
OMAHA, November 8 -- Thousands of mechanical drawings, plans and prints
of
historic steam locomotives and other railroad equipment have been donated
by Union Pacific Railroad to the Union Pacific Historical Society for
preservation.

The society recently entered into an archival agreement with the American
Heritage Center in Laramie at the University of Wyoming. The center will
store the documents and, with the assistance of the society, scan the
fragile paper records for long-term electronic preservation. The records
will be
available to the public for research.

The drawings and prints have been in storage at the Union Pacific Museum
in Omaha as well as in Cheyenne where the company bases its operational
steam
locomotives and other heritage equipment.

The Union Pacific Historical Society has more than 2,300 members
worldwide. Its annual convention, held at various locations along the
Union Pacific
Railroad, attracts upwards of 400 people each year. The society publishes
a quarterly magazine, The Streamliner. UPHS also sponsors special train
operations, produces models of important Union Pacific railroad cars and
publishes works of interest to both modelers and students of Union
Pacific
history.

Union Pacific, the nation's oldest and largest railroad, has a long
record of historical preservation. It is the only major railroad in the
United
States that maintains and operates steam locomotives for special events,
retains a small fleet of 1950s vintage passenger cars for company and
public
use, and preserves and operates historical diesel electric locomotives.
Its company museum dates back to 1922.

Union Pacific Corporation is one of America's leading transportation
companies. Its principal operating company, Union Pacific Railroad, is
the
largest railroad in North America, covering 23 states across the western
two-thirds of the United States. A strong focus on quality and a
strategically advantageous route structure enable the company to serve
customers in critical and fast growing markets. It is a leading carrier
of
low-sulfur coal used in electrical power generation and has broad
coverage of the large chemical-producing areas along the Gulf Coast. With
competitive long-haul routes between all major West Coast ports and
eastern gateways, and as the only railroad to serve all six gateways to
Mexico,
Union Pacific has the premier rail franchise in North America. The
Corporation also owns Overnite Transportation, a nationwide
less-than-truckload
carrier, and Fenix, a group of affiliated technology companies.
