I repainted mine with the valve gear and rods intact. Sort of a pain but 
better than drilling out the rivets and then finding new ones and reinstaling 
them. I left in the original gearbox and greased the snot out of it. But a 
new can motor was installed. It opened up the cab quite a bit and does run 
quieter.
