Larry,

I remember reading something years ago, but can't remember where. They had 
marks for just about everything. If you could get a meal at a certain house, 
if the RR police were friendly, etc. . Some of the markings were near the 
tracks so a passing BO could spot a place from the train as he passed. That's 
about all I remember.
