Although I don't remember much from my youth, I do recall some of the
Lincoln area. Born in 65, I do recall our small town talking about it's old
depot. Right along the tracks were the Lumber Yard, Grain Elevator, Fuel
storage, storage buildings. There were also loading/unloading docks.
Elmwood didn't have the Ramps, but I don't recall a dealership near town.
By the mid to late 60's, the train had long since not stopped in the small
towns. Lincoln to Omaha was such a short trip by car, that it didn't
matter. Although, on of my brothers did recall the following story dad
brought home one night from Lincoln.

However, I seem to recall one of Dad's stories of tracking down
a particular odor underneath a locomotive. Ended up finding a
*very* dead goat stuck beneath it. Maybe that would liven up
the model train lay-out?

Hello there,
I was on the BRHS list some time ago, but have not had time
to pursue CBQ interests for a while, but I am now acquiring track work for a
layout. This layout is going to be set in rural Nebraska, and I was
wondering what industries would typically be rail served in a mid-sixties
CBQ town. I have planned for a grain elevator, stock pens, and fuel
facility. Would they also have a freight depot in most of the towns they
serviced? I would appreciate any help here. Sorry I haven't done anything
about joining the BRHS, but my work has been such that those kind of things
just haven't been important. It has been great to see the site developing
though. Happy research.
