Burlington Trailways was indeed owned by the Q. The society published
Bulletin #24, an 80 page Bulletin on this subject. Though it is out of
print, it may still be available at some hobby stores or swap meets.

Back in August I chased down and photographed a Burlington Trailways bus. I
believe it was in Galesburg. I'll double check tonight.
If anyone is interested, give me some time and I'll print it, scan it, and
post it to the egroups files area. Still haven't broke down and bought a
slide scanner yet...

Hubert,

I am on a "fact finding mission"! IF we do have a get together, and a booth
at the NMRA convention, would you be willing to help out in coordinating
this with me? I believe the NMRA is a week long program, I don't know how
many days the booths are open, I think only on the weekend. Do would you be
availabe during the week for the get together?

Thanks,
Ray Bedard

First off, my apologies that this is getting a little out of MNrail
territory. I was wondering if anyone out there has any knowledge or know of
any books pertaining to CB&Q depots. The one I want info on in particular is
the depot that was in Farwell, Nebraska. My grandfather was the foreman for
that depot back in the 40's and 50's and the family also lived in the upper
quarters of the depot. I have obtained pictures of the depot from the family
collection and would greatly appreciate any info I can get from it.

Thanks a ton!

Chris -

Somewhere in what I would call my "archives" if they were sorted are a
half-dozen slides showing the Inman, NE depot in the summer of 1958. It
was one of the standard B&MR "upstairs living quarters" stations, so I
assume it was the same basic configuration. Unfortunately, I also do
not have a slide scanner <sigh> . . .

Would it be worth hunting them up for you, or are you only interested in
Farwell?

I think that one of Al Holck's color photo books on the Burlington
route has a photo of the Farwell depot. I can't remember if it was
Volume 1 or 2. His books are published by Four Ways West of La
Mirada, CA.

Chris,

There is a great book on "Railroad Stations in Nebraska" by South Platte
Press however it does not have Farwell, NE.

I checked another Nebraska CB&Q depot book "Burlington Route Depot Life" by
Carryl E. Hadcock with Alfred J.J. Holck but the Farewell NE depot is not
listed.

Several musings.

Have you ever noticed how urgent and fast the horns on Amtrak locomotives
sound? Hearing them, one gets the impression that the train is very near
and coming very fast even though, in fact, it may not be. I am not
knowledgeable of music but would like to know what note those horns sound.
Would anyone on the list share that information?

The notes sounded by Amtrak locomotive horns are quite different from the
more droning blares of the average freight locomotive. Has there ever been
any studies done on what warning noises from a locomotive a motorist or
pedestrian is most likely to heed? If so, would anyone on the list share
that with us?

On a completely different subject, I spent part of my day preparing model
railroad rolling stock for storage. Several questions occurred to me. It is
my understanding that if a car or locomotive is in long-term direct contact
with foam rubber the latter will eventually leave a pattern on the paint
job. Consequently, I placed clear plastic between the piece of rolling
stock and the foam rubber padding. Any comments or suggestions are
welcomed. Is there any type of clear plastic one should avoid?
